TBCG

Thornhill Bridge Community Gardeners will organise a drawing activity looking at features of the Regents Canal such as historical architecture and biodiversity.

There will also be a display of the work of Thornhill Bridge Community Gardeners and forthcoming local community events. Islington Greenspace, Islington Ecology Centre and TBCG will be working in tandem to provide information and publicise future environmental activities.

Wildlife Boat Trip

Two Wildlife boat trips will run on the day, lead by Islington Nature Conservation and Greenspace Rangers. These return trips will depart from the mooring outside the LondonCanalMuseum and head towards City Road Lock.

15 Minutes Artwork

In 15 minutes create a unique artwork which makes a distinctive present or keepsake. Thames 21 who restores canals and rivers across London, working with volunteers to remove rubbish, plant wildflowers and install art, will run a tent inviting visitors to create their own mini-sculpture, inspired by the architecture and environment of the Regent’s Canal, with professional artist Kevin Herlilhy.

5:30 pm The Musical Flying Squad
"Canal" Performance
[PERFORMANCE]

London Sinfonietta

The Musical Flying Squad performs ‘Canal,’ a community musical that tells the story of the Regent’s Canal construction. This adventurous tale follows architect John Nash, James Morgan the persevering engineer, Thomas Homer who proposed the canal and absconded with the funds, William Agar who bought land on the canal route and sued for compensation, the navvies who built the canal in dangerous conditions, and the bargemen and their families who worked and lived afloat.

The cast will be from schools, choirs and community groups, led by Musical Flying Squad who produced ‘Hub Song – the World Around King’s Cross’ for the Architectural Biennale in 2006, with script, songs and direction by Rob Inglis, and musical arrangement and direction by Bob Stuckey.

At the Canal Museum. Duration approx. 1hr 20
